Access statement

A great family friendly destination, whether it’s eating and drinking, shopping, relaxing or playing, Pavilion Gardens pride themselves on offering every visitor a thoroughly enjoyable experience.

The Pavilion Gardens offers one level access from the car park onto the Promenade and throughout its Conservatory, Café, Retail Arcade, Art Gallery, Ice Cream Parlour and Octagon Hall where it regularly holds events.

The Arts Centre and some meeting rooms are situated on the 2nd level accessible via lift or from the St Johns Road entrance on the opposite side of the building to the above picture.

How to get here

Pavilion Gardens is easily accessible by car or public transport.

By Car

You can plan your journey by entering our postcode, SK17 6BE, into you sat nav or by using a route finder website. www.aaroutefinder.co.uk

Close to the building, you will find our 270 space parking bay which is situated on the corner of St John’s Road and Burlington Road. There are eight disabled car parking bays on the lower level of the car park. The ground floor is accessible to wheelchair users throughout. Parking is on a pay and display basis but blue badge holders are free and can use any car park bay.

Please note that the under section of the car park closes and is locked between the hours of 6:00pm and 8:00am. Cars wishing to be released after 6pm and before 8am will incur a charge.

The surface is tarmac from the car parking area to the entrances and it is level access. Please note there is a steep incline between the upper car park level with St Johns Road and the lower car park level with the promenade.

With prior notification it is possible to enter the Promenade as a drop off area, as long as the vehicle doesn’t park on the Promenade. Please contact us to do this, details are further down the page.

By Bus

Accessible Local Bus service information

High Peak Buses would like all passengers to enjoy journeys regardless of their physical abilities. Most of these buses are now low floor and wheelchair accessible. All standard wheelchairs are accepted on their wheelchair accessible buses. By Rail

Buxton Railway Station is approximately a 5 to 10 minute walk from Pavilion Gardens. Please follow directions for Pavilion Gardens and Buxton Information Centre. If you require an accessible taxi these are available from Allied Taxi’s, Buxton, 01298 721 23 or for advance booking A2Z Taxis, Buxton, 01298 918101. By Coach

We allow coaches to drop their passengers off on the Promenade by prior arrangement. Coach parking is available on Burlington Rd (SK17 9AY). We also allow coaches to park for free on the Promenade provided that they have arranged this with us before visiting

Additionally the Sylvan Coach Park is situated off the roundabout at the intersection of the A6/A53. For directions from the Pavilion Gardens, please contact us.

Entrances to Pavilion Gardens

Pavilion Gardens is located near Buxton Opera House with automatic door entrances from the main promenade and St. Johns Road. St. Johns Road provides direct access to the Pavilion Arts Centre. However, wheelchair users would require the use of the lift to access the ground floor level where you will find the Ice-Cream Parlour, Retail Arcade & Art Gallery and Pavilion Café. Accessible Lifts

There is a wheelchair accessible lift from the ground floor foyer to the Pavilion Arts Centre, which is also accessible from St. Johns Road.

The accessible lift is located on the ground floor near the Ice-Cream Parlour The lift serves the 1st, 2nd and 3rd floor. On the 1st floor is the Pavilion Arts Centre, there is an additional wheelchair accessible toilet which is located on the second floor and the upper level of the Pavilion Arts Centre is located on the 3rd Floor.

Lift door width: 870mm
Lift floor depth: 1100mm
Lift floor width: 1450mm

Please note the lift is not suitable for mobility scooters. Assistance can be provided if needed. There are no mirrors in the lift, there are audio announcements for each floor and there is braille on the lift buttons.

Accessible Toilets

There are several disabled toilets within the Pavilion Gardens building, the car park and the Lakeside Hut area in the gardens. The car park and Lakeside Hut toilets are accessible by use of a Radar key.

There are two Ground Floor wheelchair accessible toilets located in the Pavilion Café and near the Ice-Cream Parlour. There is an additional wheelchair accessible toilet which is located on the second floor. Access to this toilet is from the ground floor lift.

WC has left hand transfer.
Door clear opening width: 850mm
Horizontal rail on rear of door.
Horizontal and vertical rails are fitted either side of the toilet.
Vertical grab rails are fitted either side of the basin.
Height of basin: 650mm
Space beside WC: 1000mm
Emergency cord.

Hearing Loop
A hearing loop system is installed on the lower desk at the Retail Arcade

Additional Information

We have a set of evacuation procedures and should you require this information. A staff member will assist you with the evacuation out of the building if necessary. Procedures are in place to evacuate wheelchair users from above ground floor.

Assistance dogs are welcome in the building and water can be provided upon request. Unfortunately other dogs are not permitted in the building but are welcome in the park.

All our information leaflets, evacuation procedures can be made available in large print on request. A magnifying glass is available for use at the Retail Arcade

The building has varied levels of lighting in each area with background music playing throughout the building, our events impact on the noise level.

As part of our on-going training Pavilion Gardens staff undergo a disability awareness training.
